The first described item is scarce. First published in c.1670, this map was probably part of a composite atlas. These atlases were published by Overton with a varying map content up until the early 1700’s when the business was taken over by John’s son Henry. This example does not show any roads which would indicate an early edition of the map and although it’s design owes a great deal to John Speed’s earlier map of Berkshire of 1611, it is much less common. Mudge of the Royal Artillery, 1801, uncoloured engraved map sectionalised and laid on linen, on four sheets, calligraphic title and dedication, very slight off-setting, each sheet approx. 610 x 890mm, with contemp. waxed card chemise, contained in contemp. sheep gilt solander box with contrasting morocco label to spine, rubbed and worn. A fine example of the detail, accuracy and cartographic skill deployed on the early Ordnance survey maps.. (1)

Henry Teesdale & Co., May 1st. 1830, large folding map, original hand colouring, sectionalised and laid on linen, calligraphic title, b & w engraved vignette of New Custom House Liverpool, compass rose and table of explanation, bordered in contemp. green silk, marbled end papers, occ. short marginal closed tears to old folds, spotted and dust soiled, 1600 x 1100mm, contained in contemp. calf solander box, worn, chipped and rubbed. Even as early as 1830 the map clearly shows a nascent railway system. Uncommon. (1)
