William Blaeu 'Nova Virginia Tabula', 1644, an engraved map of the state of Virginia with an ornamental cartouche incorporating the scale. Hand coloured detail, mounted in a double glazed frame, 37.5 x 48cm. This is the first of nine derivations of the renowned map of the area by John Smith. Described by Coolie Verner in M.C.C.S. no. 45 'The map is larger than its prototype and is a somewhat finer engraving'.
