Three: Second Lieutenant G. R. Daubeney, Royal West Kent Regiment, who was killed in action on the Western Front on St. George’s Day, 23 April 1915 1914-15 Star (2. Lieut. G. R. Daubeney. R.W. Kent R.); British War and Victory Medals (2. Lieut. G. R. Daubeney.); Memorial Plaque (Giles Robert Daubeney), housed within an attractive contemporary glazed frame, fitted with a regimental cap badge, stain to VM, otherwise extremely fine (4) £400-£500 --- Giles Robert Daubeney was born in October 1895, the son of the Rev. Arthur Daubeney, Vicar of Herne, Kent. Whilst a medical student at Cambridge University he was commissioned Second Lieutenant into the 3rd Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment and served during the Great War on the Western Front, attached to the 1st Battalion, from 20 January 1915. He was killed in action during the Second Battle of Ypres, South of Pilckem, on 23 April 1915. The Battalion War diary noted that his remains were recovered six days later ‘by Sergeant Bradley of ‘A’ Company, which he buried in Square C.14.C.64 of the Ypres Map’. Daubeney has no known grave and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium, and also on a brass tablet within St. Peter’s Church, Ampney St. Peter, Gloucestershire. NATIONAL TREASURE: BOOK OF SECRETS (2007) - Ben Gates' (Nicolas Cage) Hand-Illustrated Mount Vernon Map with Mitch Wilkinson's (Ed Harris) Letter from Queen Victoria - Ben Gates' (Nicolas Cage) hand-illustrated Mount Vernon map with Mitch Wilkinson's (Ed Harris) letter from Queen Victoria from Jon Turteltaub's National Treasure: Book of Secrets. Gates presented the President (Bruce Greenwood) with an old map of underground slave passages during his birthday celebration at Mount Vernon, while elsewhere, Wilkinson memorized the contents of a letter from Queen Victoria before destroying it. This lot consists of a map printed on parchment paper labeled "Mount Vernon Lands" and hand-illustrated with ink and paint touch-ups to appear aged, as well as a letter printed on cream-colored paper in brown script font and features a red wax seal. The reverse shows a printed drawing of the park gates with general information, including a section in Japanese, a camera film advertisement, and a mountain terrain photograph that forms the front cover. STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE (1977) - Framed Hand-Drawn Joe Johnston Docking Bay Storyboard - A framed hand-drawn Joe Johnston docking bay storyboard from George Lucas' Star Wars: A New Hope. Storyboards were used to map out storylines and studied for translation into film. The Deathstar destroyed Alderaan as an example, but ultimately this scene did not make the final cut.This framed, matted storyboard depicts a docking bay and was hand-drawn by Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) visual effects artist Johnston during pre-production. Rendered in graphite and ink on vellum, it is labeled "BOARD 35" and "Still Plate Alderaan Docking Bay Interior Wall," and is hand-marked possibly with "deletion" in red ink at the top. He was a pioneer in searching for artwork for his collection and began contacting artists to inquire about their works in the mid 1980s. Over time he developed personal relationships with many renowned artists including Ralph McQuarrie, Drew Struzan, Lawrence Noble, and Dave Dorman. In 1986, Plumb organized the "Space Fantasy & Reality Art Expo" at the Maturango Museum in Ridgecrest, California, to benefit the handicapped. The event was supported by contributions from Plumb's artist friends and even Lucasfilm - all of whom loaned materials to Plumb for the display.It was through these personal relationships that Plumb acquired many of the finest pieces in his collection. Throughout the years, Plumb organized or appeared at countless other events and shows, where he proudly displayed his collection and discussed his passion for Star Wars original art with both artists and fans. In 1996, Plumb hosted a panel at San Diego Comic Con on collecting Star Wars artwork specifically. In 2001, he and a small group of fellow collectors commissioned Lawrence Noble to produce the now-famous "Bronze Yoda."
