Cornford (Frances). Poems, 1st ed., Hampstead, The Priory Press, [1910], orig. grey cloth-backed boards, lettered in dark green, a little soiled, crown 8vo The author's first book. Frances Cornford was suspected, in the summer of 1911, of being Bertrand Russell's secret mistress, a theory that caused some frivolity between him and Ottoline. The Cornford's home in Cambridge became a meeting-place for artists and men of letters, including Rothenstein, Gill, Lowes Dickinson, and Bertrand Russell. Russell reported to Ottoline on 6th August of that year that he went home hungry and bad-tempered after dining on soup and few slices of cold meat at Cornford's infamously frugal table. With Ottoline's monogram, and the date 1910, on the front free endpaper. (1)
