Catalogue Note This table follows closely the original design by Gillows which can be found in their Estimate Sketch Book, 23th August 1822, for Sir. T. D. Hesketh. For a virtually identical table, see Susan E. Stuart, Gillows of Lancaster & London, 1730-1840, p.303, pl.332 and a table of the same design appears on the front cover of Volume II. A similar example in mahogany was sold by Christie's, 'Parisian Taste in London', 10th September 2009, lot 343. Interestingly, the three cited examples all have a work bag slide but no evidence of a bag having been fitted and it seems that the clients preferred to make their own bag.
