A George IV mahogany sofa table, inlaid with stringing, the drop-leaf top above a pair of frieze drawers with faux-fronts to the reverse, on lyre ends and reeded legs united by a low stretcher, with brass caps and castors, 74.9cm high, 147.8cm wide, 66.5cm deep (open). A George IV mahogany dressing table attributed to Gillows, the reeded edged three-quarter gallery above a conforming concave centred top, above an arrangement of four mahogany and cedar lined drawers, the left hand side a deep drawer with a false front, on ribbed tapering legs and brass caps and castors, 81.8cm high, 121.2cm wide, 64cm deep.
An early 17th century and later oak refectory table, the quintuple boarded top above a frieze, carved with lunettes and a thumbnail moulding, the scroll carved brackets on fluted and leaf carved cup and cover supports, united by peripheral stretchers, 77.7cm high, 261.3cm long, 98cm deep. Provenance: By repute from the collection of John Paul Getty.

The Compleat Housewife: or, Accomplish'd Gentlewoman's Companion: being a collection of upwards of six hundred of the most approved receipts in cookery, pastry, confectionery, preserving, pickles, cakes, creams, jellies, made wines, cordials..., 9th edition, with very large additions, printed for J. & J. Pemberton, 1739, engraved frontispiece and 5 (of 6) folding engraved plates at rear (plate 2 with inner portion only present), some minor marks, modern quarter calf gilt, 8vo, together with Carter (Charles), The Compleat City and Country Cook: or Accomplish'd Housewife. Containing, several hundred of the most approved receipts in cookery, confectionery, cordials, cosmeticks, jellies, pastry, pickles, preserving, syrups, English wines, &c., 1st edition, A. Bettesworth and C. Hitch, 1732, 46 (of 49) engraved plates of table plans, etc., including one folding (lacking plates 46, 48 & 49 at rear), plate 41 with some damage and loss, now laid down, and the folding plate 47 with some marks and now laid down, a few minor marks elsewhere, contemporary panelled calf with modern reback, rubbed and some wear to edges, 8vo First work: Bitting, page 438. Thirteen Club. A group of four lunch guestbooks, 1928-74, most pages with typed paper labels giving place and date of luncheon with names of the chairman and vice chairman, the remainder of each page largely covered with autographs of attendees in various coloured pens, additionally including 26 printed menus, 7 vintage photographs, some letters, news cuttings, etc., original morocco bindings with gilt titling and presentation details, first volume lacking upper cover, lower cover detached and backstrip defective, second and third volumes heavily rubbed with broken brass locks, fourth volume with brass lock and key present, 4to The Thirteen or 13th Club has been described as the strangest Club in the world. It involved thirteen members of the catering profession the West End of London and was founded in 1923. The Club met four times a year and besides luncheons included meeting on Friday 13th, breaking mirrors, chasing black cats, spilling salt, walking under ladders, placing pairs of worn shoes on the table, etc. Among the guests were other famous chefs and restaurant owners, whose names proliferate the four albums.
