A Victorian burr walnut table top stationery cabinet, with well appointed interior with calendar, with pen and inkwells and with draw out leather inset writing slope with sunken brass handle. Width 32.5 cm, height 35 cm, depth 26 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The casket is in generally very good condition. It is a good colour and there are no splits or losses to the veneers. All metalwork is present and in good condition. The doors shut correctly and are not warped. The interior fretwork is in generally very good order with only very minor staining and small stress fractures but no losses. One inkwell is missing. The pullout writing surface is in generally good condition. The tooled leather is marked and scuffed particularly along the edges between the hinges. The pen slide has had a section cut out from the right hand side, we are not sure why.
An Eero Saarinen tulip dining table and eight chairs, the eight chairs with seat pads, table width 121.5 cm, length 198 cm, with 1973 price list from Form International and colour brochure (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: We have no specific provenance with the suite other than the 1973 price list and brochure from Form International. We cannot see any manufacturer's marks or labels to any of the pieces. The only visible marking is a moulded “Made In England” beneath the table support. Having looked at all pieces it seems that many of the bases in particular have been refinished. They appear to have been resprayed. The table top is in good condition with no issues. The underside of the table has some minor flaking to the painted finish. The tulip shaped column appears to have been re-sprayed in recent times. There are some losses to the paint work around the extremities. Two of the 8 chairs have one small visible stress fracture to the backs. A third has a more significant crack which has movement and runs for approximately 7 cm. All chairs in our opinion have been re-finished in the same manner as the table base. There are some minor losses to the re- finished paintwork. The seat pads are a little faded but are all serviceable. The table and chairs are sold with a furniture price list from Form International from Sept 1973 together with a fire red nylon homespun swatch for the seat fabric and a Form International colour brochure. The dimensions of the table correspond to those given in the price list.
An Arts & Crafts oak two tier side table, with circular top, hexagonal shelf and quatreform base. Diameter 45.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The table is in generally good condition. The top is flat and not warped. There are some minor marks and scratches to the top surface but no significant problems. The table is structurally very sound. There is no evidence of any woodworm.
A George III mahogany dining table, comprising a pair of D ends and centre drop leaf section, the plain flat top with boxwood strung edge supported by a recessed frieze with boxwood and ebony stringing and chequer inlay and with boxwood and hare wood bellflower medallions to the top of each leg and all supported by twelve tapered legs of square section terminating in spade feet. Length 277 cm, width 123 cm, height 74 cm (see illustration).
A Victorian tripod table, late 19th century, the top inlaid with Porphyry marble depicting a bird alighting a leafy branch within a moulded mahogany border upon a spiral fluted and carved rosewood stem with shaped legs with carved flower head decoration. Diameter 48 cm, height 78 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The table is in generally very good condition. The porphyry top is in good condition with no significant losses or any cracks. There is one small visible loss to the top point of the left hand leaf below the downswept wing. This is an old loss. The walnut surround is in good order. The table is structurally very sound. The centre column is in good order. The legs are all tight with no movement at the joints. One leg seems to have been loose at some point evidenced by traces of glue. There is also a suggestion that a segment from the cylindrical boss in to which the legs fit has had an old repair. None of this is detrimental to the table which could be used or resold in its current condition.
A satinwood inlaid demi-lune card table, early 19th century, the top with inlaid floral decoration against a rosewood crossbanded edge, the square tapering legs with inlaid paterae and bellflower decoration (some losses). Width 84 cm, height 72.5 cm, depth closed 41 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The table top surface is in generally good condition with no significant losses to the marquetry. The crossbanding is all intact. There is a small piece of boxwood beading missing right at the centre front. The frieze panels are in good condition all around. Both front legs have slightly angled towards the back over time. The right hand front leg is slightly loose at its joints. All legs are missing parts of the spade feet. There are also sections of the boxwood edge beading missing to all legs. The green baize lined interior is serviceable. The hinges are original. When the table is viewed from the front it does meet in the centre. The “smile” progresses as you move towards the left and right. It is not particularly significant to the right hand side but is more visible to the left where at the widest point it is approximately 7 mm. It is not particularly noticeable at a casual glance but is clearly visible when inspected.
