Three pieces of Graf Zeppelin china, presented to the World famous operatic soprano Lily Pons during a voyage in 1934,comprising cup, saucer and side plate, each in blue and gilt on cream ground, the plate and cup with LZ emblem, all marked Heinrich & Co, 'Graf Zeppelin 1928' to underside, together with a photograph depicting Lily Pons awaiting departure on the great dirigible, 14 x 9cm, and a pair of her white kid leather gloves, embroidered with the Legion d'Honneur medal and small red ribbon to the back of the left glove. Footnotes:Lily Pons (1898–1976), a World class operatic soprano and actress who had an active career, from the 1920s to 1970s. Specializing in the coloratura soprano repertoire, Pons, in addition to appearing as a guest artist with many opera houses internationally, enjoyed a particularly long association with the Metropolitan Opera in New York City where she performed nearly 300 times between 1931 and 1960.In 1934, Lily Pons flew from Rio de Janeiro to Germany on the airship Graf Zeppelin, she dined at the Captains table every day and was presented with these pieces of china upon arrival in Germany.See lot 96 Bonhams Goodwood Festival of Speed auction 29 June 2012.For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
