A Regency mahogany cross banded sideboard in the manner of Gillows of Lancaster, with breakfront and rounded corners, single frieze drawer and bowed cupboard to each pedestal, width 153 cm. NOTE - This sideboard corresponds to a Gillows design, see Lindsay Boynton, plate 83 sideboard table 1787 (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The sideboard is in structurally good order with no significant cabinetwork issues. All minor problems are of a cosmetic nature. The polish finish to the piece is of French polish variety which is showing some surface scratches. The top is flat with no warping. There are two stress fractures to the right hand side and a small veneer loss to the rear right hand corner. All cross banding is present. The frieze is in good condition all round with no losses. The edge moulding is complete. The left hand side panel has a small timber loss to the top edge just underneath the moulding. The side is flat but there are some stress fractures to the timbers. None of these are open. The right hand side is in generally good order. Both doors close as they should. Both locks are present we have a key. Both door panels have polish scratches and slight stress fractures to the centres of the veneers but again these are very minor. The left hand door has minor stress fractures to the outer frame. The right hand door similarly has stress fractures to the timber at the bottom left hand corner. The drawer runs smoothly and is in good condition. The plinth moulding is a little marked and dirty. Both cupboards have the original locks and plates. The hinges appear to be original also. The backboards are all original. The doors are not warped and close and lock as they should.
A William IV mahogany breakfast table, the well figured top with crossbanded edge and recessed frieze, the base with faceted column and triform base raised on bun feet with castors. Diameter 120 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The table top is flat and not warped. There are no splits. The crossbanded edge is in good condition all round as is the frieze. The snap action operates as it should. The faceted column is in good order. The triform base is in good condition all round as are the bun feet. All castors are present
A Regency rosewood sofa table, fitted with two drawers to either side and raised on silhouette supports with downswept legs terminating in brass capped castors. Width 104 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The table is structurally sound with no loose joints. The top is flat and not warped. There are numerous surface scratches particularly to the centre of the table and traces of water and ring marks. The polished surface is slightly worn in places. Both leaves are flat and not warped. There are some minor losses to the crossbanding on both leaves. This is particularly evident on the rounded corners. All told there is approximately 35 cm of this crossbanding missing. The right hand leaf has a veneer stress fracture which is slightly open. The right hand frieze drawer has a section of upright cock beading missing has does the left. We have about 6 cm of the detached crossbanding. The centre stretcher and all legs are in good condition with no breaks. All knob handles are present as are the original castors.
An antique oak refectory table, with later top, with scratch moulded recessed frieze, turned legs and centre stretcher. 74 cm x 194 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The height from the underside edge of the table to the floor is 73.3 cm. Three of the four legs have very squat bun feet. The fourth has a modern timber block. The table top as stated is later. It is in reasonable order but does have a full width brace at one end. The table is structurally sound. The under carriage does have signs of wear and fatigue particularly around the bottom half of each leg. The table base clearly has very considerable age.
A Regency/William IV mahogany dining table, comprising two ends and one leaf, each end with rounded corners and recessed frieze and raised on turned tapered reeded legs. Width 101 cm, length extended 173 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The table is in generally good order. The top is flat and not warped. There are a number of small surface scratches and other minor marks to the top surface but nothing of any significance. The colour is generally fairly good. The leaf is also a similar colour to both ends. One end has one piece of the edge lobbing missing on one corner. Other than this the frieze is in good condition all around. All legs are structurally sound and do not appear to have had any repairs. They are a little marked and scuffed as one would expect but there are no significant condition issues. We have the four brass clips although these appear to be later.
A Chinese hardwood coffee table, inset with chrysanthemums cloisonne plaques against a turquoise ground. 83 cm x 46 cm x 32 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The left hand panel has a small 5 mm x 2 mm chip to the blue ground located approximately 4 cm from the centre of the bottom. There is also a tiny chip located at 6 o'clock on the bottom rim. There are numerous craze marks throughout both panels. The wood surface has numerous surface scratches which could be polished out. The front left leg has a 6 cm x 1 cm light splice missing and from which issues a full length fine hairline crack. The rear left leg also has a full length fine hairline crack as does the rear right leg on two sides, one part of which appears to have been filled. The rear of the front right leg also has fine cracks.
A pair of Regency Toleware style table lamps, 20th century, of square tapering form, with gilt geometric cell pattern against a mottled red/black ground, raised on four gilt lion paw feet in turn above a square base. Height excluding shade, 41 cm, with shade 81 cm. CONDITION REPORT: This pair of lamps are of recent manufacture and until recently have resided in a local hotel. Generally throughout both are in good order with no major obvious faults however one does have a small fingernail size section of blistering on the base but this is not instantly obvious and does not particularly detract from the overall appearance. The matching lamp shades are generally in good order but would require cleaning.
A Victorian oak extending dining table, with two leaves and wind out action, with canted corners and raised on turned legs terminating in castors. Width 107 cm, length extended 230 cm. CONDITION REPORT: Height from floor to table top 75.5 cm, height from floor to underside of recessed frieze 61 cm.
A William IV mahogany turnover top tea table, with well figured frieze and canted angles, with carved pedestal, quatreform base and raised on paw feet with castors. Width 86 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This table is in generally very good order. It is good quality. The colour is excellent. The top is not significantly warped. The brasswork is original. The frieze is in good condition all round. The centre column and quatreform base are all in good order as are the four paw feet. We can see no losses. The castors are original.
A fine quality Louis Philippe brass mounted mahogany card table, with swivel turnover top inlaid with key pattern brass stringing, with rounded corner to the leading edge, enclosing a leathered playing surface above a panelled frieze flanked by brass flutes and raised on turned tapering brass inlaid fluted legs terminating in brass topie feet, French circa 1846 Width 87 cm, height 76 cm. NOTE - Sold with copy receipt from Mallett dated May 2000 at a discounted purchase price of £14,560 (see illustration).
An antique Persian design rug, with centre rectangular panel and multiple line border, with dark blue ground. 218 cm x 137 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The fringes to both ends are either very short or missing. There is a 41cm long by 1cm wide strip of border missing on the right hand side. Within the missing patch there is a 30cm strip with no decoration. One corner is missing a very fine strip around its edge. There are small patches of light thread showing through the lower left hand side edge. The borders are a light salmon pink colour and are rather faded but not overly so. The carpet as obviously laid beneath a table has the main field is bright and colourful and appears to be free from any restorations. A lot of the damage if not all can be seen on our web images.
A Victorian walnut sewing table, with circular top, faceted column and raised on foliate carved cabriole legs. Diameter 45 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The work table is structurally very sound. It has been re-polished at some point within the last 10 or so years. The top is flat with no significant condition issues only minor blemishes. The lock is original but we do not have the key. The interior has its original paper lining which is perished in places. All interior compartment lids (there will probably have been four plus the centre aperture lid) are missing. The faceted column and frieze are in good condition all round. The centre turned section beneath the faceted column has a loss to one turning and shrinkage cracks. There is however no movement. The legs are all in good condition. There is no evidence of any woodworm.
A set of three patinated brass table lamps, on weighted sphere bases. Height excluding light fitting 56 cm. CONDITION REPORT: These lamps have recently been removed from a local hotel and are probably no more than 20 years old at the most. See lot 691 for matching standard lamps and lot 692 for matching ceiling lights.
A mahogany top pub table, 19th century, with cast iron base with three legs, decorated with Britannia bordered by roses and thistles, united by a lower tier and all on lion paw feet. Diameter 65 cm., height 76 cm. NOTE - This table was originally in the George IV Public House, Solway Street, Workington.
