A Victorian mahogany dressing table with oval mirror above arrangement of seven drawers, the shaped lower section with single short drawer on carved cabriole front legs and under-tier, approx 130 x 120 x 48cm excluding mirror.Additional InformationThe fixture for the mirror is now so loose that the mirror is currently unattached and needs attention. The mirror has bevelled glass but has loses to the silvering, quite heavy scuffs and scrapes to the frame possibly associated.  The supports for the mirror are also probably associated and are very loose. Differentiation in colour, some heavy scratches and abrasions, further general wear commensurate with age and use throughout. The entire piece is of a loose construction.

Pringle was appointed physician-general to the Low Countires in 1744, and in 1752 published "Observations on the Diseases of the Army", a groundbreaking work of modern military medicine. Among others, he is remembered for printing the first German translation of Boccaccio's "De claris mulieribus" in 1473. Only 1.4% of ISTC recorded editions were printed in Ulm. The "Compendium theologicae" has a long history of being misattributed to an array of authors such as Albert Magnus, Thomas Aquinas, Thomas Dorinberg, and Bonaventure, among others, but is now more certainly considered to be by Hugo Ripelin (1205-70), a Dominican theologian from Strasbourg.
