WW1 7th (Leeds Rifles) West Yorkshire Regiment 1916 Officers Casualty Framed Group of Medals. Awarded to Captain Robert Salter who was Killed in Action leading his men forward on the 26th August 1916. Comprising: 1914/15 Star, “CAPT R SALTER W. YORK R”, British War Medal, Victory Medal, “CAPT”, Bronze Memorial Plaque “ROBERT SALTER”. The group remains mounted into a period bronze and glazed table top frame. Captain Robert Salter a native of Pudsey Leeds and a pre war Territorial Officer of the 1/7th Bn (Leeds Rifles) West Yorkshire Regiment landed in France with his Battalion on the 15th April 1915. A contemporary newspaper reported that on the 26th August 1916 “During the Battle of the Somme, Robert led his section of the 7th Battalion Leeds Rifles in a charge across no mans land from which he did not return”. He was buried at Lonsdale Cemetery Authuille near Thiepval.
Victorian / Edwardian Table Top Collectors Cabinet. A good quality mahogany example with four thin and one deep drawer. These are flanked by “Barley Twist” pilasters. The cabinet is raised on four bun feet. Retains a good colour. Height 11 inches x Width 20 inches x Depth 15 inches. Depth of interior top drawer 1/2 inch. Bottom drawer 1 3/4 inch (approx)

A rare pair of signed photographs, the one of King George VI signed “Bertie 1937”. the one of Queen Elizabeth signed “Elizabeth 1937”. The king is shown in Royal Navy uniform. Contained in original blue leather table frames with gold tooled cyphers. Image and signatures clear leather and tooling good. Overall height 10 inches.
