AMBROSE HEAL, a rare Heal’s, 1930s Art Deco or modernist dining suite comprising table, 2 armchairs and 2 side chairs, all with curule design in oval section chromed tubular steel, the table with later laminated surface to inset top and the chairs with later leather. This design was exhibited in Heals White and Off-White Exhibition at the Mansard Gallery 1933 and shown in the Heals catalogues of the 1930s, table height 78cm, top 154 x 83cmChristies label attached 1992. All in good structural condition. All chairs have new leather seats and backs. Some rubbing to all frames, light pitting. Table top has small chips to edges and minor marks for age.

NO RESERVETWO JAPANESE SETO WARE KENBYO (SCHOLAR'S TABLE SCREENS) MEIJI ERA, 19TH CENTURY Both of rectangular form, the former supported on two shishi, the panel depicting an encounter between a fisherman and a farmer beneath a poem, the reverse with a watery landscape, the border with a key fret; the latter raised on bracket feet, decorated with a bird perched on a flowering tree, the reverse with branches of blossoming sakura, the border with further sakura flowers on a striped ground; together with an Arita dish decorated with shells to the well, within a border of cresting waves to the rim, 14.5cm, 13cm and 18.2cm respectively. NO RESERVEA JAPANESE LACQUER BUNDAI (WRITING TABLE) AND MATCHING SUZURIBAKO (WRITING BOX) AFTER OGATA KŌRIN MEIJI OR LATER, 19TH OR 20TH CENTURY In Rimpa style, the table of standard form with fudegaeshi (raised sections to the sides), raised on four shaped legs and mounted with metal fittings embellished with scrolling tendrils; the writing box with rounded corners; both decorated with deer under maple trees and by a stream, all rendered in gold hiramaki-e and inlaid in lead and mother-of-pearl raden takamaki-e on the black roiro ground; the reverse of the cover decorated with a full moon above hills cloaked in mist, depicted in gold takamaki-e, silver, and mother of pearl on the nashiji ground, signed Kōzan above a red seal mark; with an inner tray, an ink stone and a fitted suiteki water dropper modelled as two men fighting a tiger; the table 14.3cm x 61cm x 34.7cm, the writing box 7.5cm x 22.8cm x 25.5cm. A set of six mid 20th Century red painted wrigglework decorated framed dining chairs, with rush seats, on square supports united by stretchers (4 plus 2 carvers), together with a similarly decorated terracotta painted single drawer side table on square tapered legs, bearing label to underside of drawer "Rowley 140-2 Church Street Kensington W8" (Rowley Art Gallery), 82 cm wide x 42 cm deep x 70 cm high CONDITION REPORTS All are in a worn/barn stored/attic stored state with losses to the paintwork variously throughout. All the seats need restringing. One elbow chair has a large crack running on the right hand back support. The other has a small repair to the bottom back support rail. Also has splits to the wood on the left hand support and evidence of some woodworm and other small areas of repair throughout. One of the standard chairs has a large crack in the back right hand support/leg. Another standard chair has a chunk missing from the back right hand support, has a chunk missing from the top right hand corner. Table - piece has possibly been over painted, although not recently, as there is signs of red underneath the handles and on the drawer frontage. In need of a good clean. Has other knocks and bumps throughout. Some cracking and crazing to the paintwork. All pieces have wear and tear conducive with use and being barn/attic stored with splits, some small signs of worm to a couple of the chairs etc - see images for more details
