Beschreibung: Es handelt sich bei diesem Spielbrett um eine "Table de Roulette", so wie man sie seit dem 17. Jahrhundert in Italien und Frankreich kannte. Es fehlt der Cylindre (Roulettekessel) und die Elfenbeinkugel, mit der die Zahlen ausgelost wurden, auf die auf dem Spielbrett die Teilnehmenden ihre Jetons setzten. ROULETTE-TISCH "THE KING'S TABLE" FÜR SIR HIRAM MAXIM. England. Datierung: 1907-08. Technik: Mahagoni, Buchsbaum. Innen grüner Filz u.a. Beschreibung: Rechteckige Form, die schlanken Beine auf Rollen. Die Platte zu öffnen und darunter ein Rouletterad sowie kleine Fächer für die Spielsteine. Maße: Geschlossen 79x93,5x56,5, Geöffnet 77x93,5x113cm. Provenienz:Privatsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen, erworben Kunsthandel John Bly, London.Der Roulette-Tisch wurde 1907 durch König Edward VII. bei dem amerikanischen Erfinder Sir Hiram Maxim in Auftrag gegeben. Er sollte einen manipulationssicheren Roulette-Tisch entwickeln. Der hier vorliegende Tisch wurde im September 1908 fertig und auf die Probe gestellt. Lord Rosslyn, ein berühmt berüchtigter Londoner Spieler setzte sich mit 10.000 GBP Einsatz an den Tisch und hatte alles im Laufe von zehn Tagen verloren. Der sogenannte King's Table verblieb im Besitz des Erfinders und wurde später an seinen Enkel Oberst Maxim Joubert weitergegeben, welcher ihn dann an seinen Arzt weitergab.Erläuterungen zum Katalog
