Designated in 1909 as the 4th (Hallmashire) Battalion, York and Lancaster Regiment.
A Chinese silver regimental table bell, The King's (Shropshire Light Infantry), by Wang Hing, circa 1893, inscribed 'Presented to the Officer's Mess 85th Light Infantry by Lt. Col Ravenhill, Augt. 1893', height 15.5cm, approx. weight 11oz. Provenance: a Private Collection of Regimental Silver. Edward Ravenhill was commissioned on 25 August 1865 into the 86th King's Light Infantry. He served in the 2nd Afghan war of 1879. He was promoted to Lt. Colonel in 1889. This bell was a farewell present to the Mess when he went on the half pay list.

Provenance: The crowned initials MH are for Mary Anna Devereux, Viscountess Hereford. She was born in 1844, daughter of Sir Charles Morgan, 1st Baron Tredegar, and was married in 1863 to Robert Devereux, 16th Viscount Hereford. She died in 1924. By family descent to the current owner.
