Tobia Scarpa (b.1935) was son of the architect Carlo Scarpa and designed furniture for Gavina from 1960 with his wife Afra Bianchin. A rare 'Shift' table by Ettore Sottsass for Knoll International designed 1986 the square beech veneered top supported on four "shifted" columnar legs 72cm. high by 165cm. sq. The Shift table forms the centrpiece of the Sottsass Collection for Knoll. Intended as a high-quality limited-edition dining or board table it was handmade and produced for only five years. In 1988 the Shift table won a prestigious Roscoe Award (Resources Council USA) for "excellence and innovation in product design". W
