A Clarice Cliff "Fantasque" pattern baluster shaped vase, decorated in yellows, oranges, blue and greens and retailed by Lawleys, Regent Street, bearing black Clarice Cliff mark to base "Hand-painted Fantasque by Clarice Cliff Wilkinson Limited England" and bearing gilt "Lawleys" retailer's mark and incised number "124" (drilled for table lamp fitting), together with a cream shade and a small lampshade painted with a "Fantasque" type design, 22 cm CONDITION REPORTS Vase later drilled with old lot sticker to base, old Christies sticker to base, lot 108 22nd May 1998 sale. Some small scratches to the glaze. Crazing to the glaze. General signs of wear and tear. Shade is associated, and has been painted in a similar design.
"The Bible", printed London by Christopher Barker, printer to the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty 1579, in five volumes, later re-bound in a plum coloured velvet with pen inscription, dated 1899, with hand-written inscription inside "This Bible Makers is not in itself any great curiosity but I have had it bound and preserved in it's present form because it is traditionally said to have been presented by The County of Gloucester as was then the custom as it is now appears bound in red velvet and in five volumes to my ancester George Huntley when he became High Sheriff to Queen Elizabeth. His autograph appears on the title page. We have every reason to say that he was at that time in communion with the Church in Rome though...... he did not dare to avow his opinions", initialled "GWH 9 January 1855", all five volumes now presented in a large box shaped as a book, spine marked "Barker's Bible London 1579" CONDITION REPORTS Split into 5 volumes with later re-binding. With pen inscription to the first book. Large pen mark to the frontispiece top middle starts with the page "Of the incomparable treafure of the holy Scriptures.....". second page "To the diligent and Christian Reader, Grace, .....", then "Proper leffons to be read for the ....", two pages "TO THE MOST VERTVOVS AND NOBLE LADIE ELIZABETH,QVEENE OF ENGLAND....". The first book has 4 leaves prior to "THE FIRST BOOKE OF MOSES, CALLED * GENEFIS" - Two pages are No'd. 53. There is no page 54 -ie 54 incorrectly numbered 53. All pages No'd. to top right hand corner of the right hand page. Page 85 incorrectly numbered 83 . Page 96 incorrectly numbered 95. Contrary to previous condition report there is a page 110. This book ends on page 126. "Ziklag is burnt"/ Chapter XXXi " The death of Saul and his fonnes. he next book starts on "The Second Booke of Samuel", page 127. One large dark mark to page 133 and another on page 184 ch.xvi v.9 . Contrary to previous report there is a page156 . Page 190 has a mark to the bottom right hand corner. Page 213 incorrectly numbered 190. This book ends on page 221. Top right hand corner marked "His Felicitie and Death" There are no pages 222-256 . The next book is "The Pfalter Pfalmes of Dauid" on the frontispiece. Next page "The Pfalmes of Dauid , of that tranflation" for 25.5 leaves, followed by "Godly prayers/a prayer conteining the duety......" consisting of 2.5 leaves then on to "Apocrypha" leaves 1-86. The next book is "The Newe Teftament" with two pages of "The Fumme of the whole scripture" for two sides, "Certaine questions & answers touching ....." for three sides, then one page of "The names& order of all the bookes",then "THE HOLIE aGOSPEL OF IESUS CHRIST, bACCORDING TO MATTHEWE. " thence onwards from leaf/page 1- 121 , followed by the first table "A briefe Table of the interpretation of the proper names....." 3.5 leaves , then the second table "A Table of the principal things that are conteyned in The Bible" 9.5 leaves then , "A perfite Supputation of the yeeres and times from the creation of the world, vnto this prefent yeere of our Lord God 1578 .... The last book is "THE PROVERBES OF SALOMON" hand-written to the frontispiece the second page numbered 258 thence to page 378 "The ende of the Prophets" All pages slightly yellowed and with small signs of foxing . General signs of wear and tear but generally good.
A 19th Century oak cricket table of typical form, the circular top on splayed chamfered supports, 71 cm diameter CONDITION REPORTS Some light scratches to the top. One large split. One piece appears to have been off and reglued. Planks are becoming separated. Stains. General wear and tear. Edges have splits, two holes to the edges. Pin holes to edges. Old woodworm holes to the top. Underside has significant signs of repair to the top, woodworm holes. Base is not original. Large signs of wear and tear throughout.
A 19th Century Dutch walnut and inlaid fold-over card table in the early 18th Century manner, the marquetry inlaid top decorated with a vase of flowers and foliate swags with butterfly inlaid spandrels opening to reveal a red baize lined interior with counter and card recesses inlaid with playing cards over a shaped freize with single drawer marquetry inlaid with foliage and flowers, raised on shell carved cabriole legs to paw/hoof feet, 74.5 cm wide
A mahogany crossbanded demi-lune tea table, the sides with shell inlay stringing to square sectioned, tapering legs terminating in spade feet, 89 cm wide CONDITION REPORTS Top - four large section of veneer missing from back inlaid section and various other small pieces, larger piece 4 x 2.5cm, 7.5 x 2.5cm, 3 x 2.3cm, 1 x 2.5 cm approx. There is scratches throughout the top from general use a small patch repair to top in main body approx 1 x 0.5 cm (see image) some other old professional repairs to veneer around edges on top and several knocks to edges of the veneer on the edges, back right corn has patch repair 6 by 2.5cm and other of the other corner 10 x 2.5 cm and splitting to veneers conducive to age, inside good colour, splitting to veneer due to age, some scratches and staining from use (see images) splitting one front apron enter panel running horizontally from one side to other and left apron (see images) back left leg has repair to shell decoration has a repair 7 x 1 cm (see images) general knocks, splits and bumps to the piece conducive to age throughout the piece. Both legs swing out. Base of apron to floor is just under 60 cm. Significant loss of inlay to banding, especially at the back. Various scratches and impressed marks throughout, small chips, losses to veneer. Top is warped, old repair to the mahogany, top with various dents, scratches etc. old repairs to the inlay, cracks to the inlay, cracks and splits to the sides, scratches, indentations, large split running all the way along. Table is not 'sturdy'. Knocks, nibbles and chips to the legs. General wear and tear. Distance between front legs is 43.5cm
