19th century burr walnut marquetry and ebonised sewing table, the ornately inlaid lid with brass edging enclosing a fitted interior with drawers and compartments over a simulated decorated frieze and raised on tapering reeded cylindrical supports joined by an H stretcher terminating in peg feet. Provenance: previously the property of Field Marshal Horatio Herbert Kitchener, 1st Earl Kitchener KG, KP, GCB, OM, GCSI, GCMG, GCIE, PC (died 1916), during his long and illustrious career as a soldier in the British Empire, Lord Kitchener spent many years in Egypt. He was appointed Inspector General of the Egyptian Police in 1890 and was made Commander in Chief of the Egyptian Army in 1892. He then served for several years in other countries before he returned to Egypt in 1911 as British Agent and Consul General during the rule of Abbas Hilmi II. This marquetry sewing table belonged to Lord Kitchener and was in his house in Cairo. After Lord Kitchener's death in 1916, the vendor's grandmother, Mrs H W (Jessie) Dudgeon, attended the sale of his household effects and purchased the sewing table, then by descent to the current vendor. 68cm wide

There is some light abrasion to the crown facet edges. There is a small split under the gallery where the setting meets the finger, there are three patches of solder joining the central cluster to the lobed cluster, all diamonds are present and correct, bright and lively. Cartier, a cast silver 'samorodok'' rectangular table box by Jacques Cartier, London 1952, engraved Cartier London, with splashes of gold, the thumbpiece in the form of a claw-mounted cast of a Charles I crown, 14cm (5 1/2in) long, 294g (9.45Condition Report: Overall good condition with some wear commensurate with age and use. Lid closes well with no gaps or play. Hinges are good. Hallmarks are well struck and very readable. There is quite a lot of dirt around the inside cover lip. As the box is rough cast there are polishing areas on the base to make it stable, with some slight rubbing from use on the base. No major scuffs or scratches, no dents or bruises. There is one gold claw missing at the 12 o'clock position on the cast coin thumb piece, but is not really noticeable.Condition Report Disclaimer

A late Victorian and later ruby and diamond brooch/pendant, centred with a late Victorian old mine cut diamond and ruby cluster, circa 1890, the cushion cut ruby estimated to weigh 3.30 carats, diamonds approximately 0.90 carats total, within a later oval cut ruby and old cut diamond surround, approximately 0.60 carats total, with removable brooch fitting, 3.5cm long, 8.9g grossCondition Report: The ruby in the central pendant has numerous inclusions, but none appear to be surface reaching to the table, although at the back of the stone there do appear to be some surface reaching fractures near the setting at the base of the stone, some very minor surface rubbing some small nicks. The diamonds are mostly VS - SI Clarity (a few minor inclusions), no visible chips to the smaller rubies. The rubies in the outer mount all appear original, no visible nicks or chips. No signs of damage to the mounts. The central cluster of the pendant is Victorian, the surround is much later, modern.The ruby measures 11mm x 9.5mm x 3.7mmCondition Report Disclaimer

An French Art Nouveau early 20th century amethyst dress ring, circa 1900, the mixed cut amethyst with a trio of claws to each canted corner, the claws to tapered fan like panels with a scalloped gallery between, the shank numbered 700 with rubbed French poincons, finger size K, 9.1g grossCondition Report: There is wear and some thinning to the claws, particularly the middle claws, one claw has had the tip worn back, although the stone is still secure, the shank has wear from use, there are the faint rubbed remains of the makers mark and gold standard marks, there are also some further polished knocks to the shank towards the shoulders, Numbered 700 on the inside of the shank, sadly no signature.
