A PAIR OF GEORGE V 18CT GOLD TABLE PLACE STANDS formed of the initials H and C beneath a royal crown and entwined with a ribbon bearing the dates 1866 and 1916, on ivory plinth, 6cm h, by B H Jopseph & Co, Birmingham 1915 Provenance: The initials are those of Princess Helena (1846-1923), fifth child of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, and Prince Christian of Schleswig-Holstein (1831-1917). These stands are from a set made for a dinner given to celebrate the royal couple`s Golden Wedding in 1916. Acquired in Norfolk in the 1960s by the present vendor`s late husband from the family of a former member of the Royal Household. ++One slightly distorted. The ivory base of one with a chip to the corner, the piece having been cleanly restuck, also another small flat old chip on the underside of the ivory base. The odd small spot of staining and ingrained dirt in the ivory but entirely unrestored. Of impeccable provenance, extremely rare and not previously offered for sale
