Food & drink.- Nott (John) The Cook's and Confectioner's Dictionary: or, the Accomplish'd Housewife's Companion, first edition, engraved frontispiece, woodcut of table setting on 2Q7, 1p. advertisements at end, 2D8 repaired tear within text, without loss, some spotting or foxing, occasional water-staining, contemporary calf, rebacked, corners little worn, rubbed, [Cagle 903; Maclean p.107; Oxford p.56; Vicaire 631], 8vo, printed for C. Rivington, at the Bible and Crown in St. Paul's Church-Yard, 1723. ⁂ Nott was cook to the Duke of Bolton and other members of Court. As well as listing a diverse range of standard recipes he also describes practical joke dishes presented, including pies with false tops, which when opened contained live birds and frogs.

Large oak draw leaf table raised on turned supports united by a stretcher, 230cm, 380cm (extended). Condition Report. Oak parquet top. Some wear, old scratches and marks to top and , more noticeably, to the base ( as images). Spatter marks to one leg which seem to rub/wipe off. Small chip to one corner. No visible sign of worm.
