JACQUES YANKEL, (French, c. 1920) Untitled, Still Life, circa 1960 signed Yankel, lower left oil on canvas 18 ¾ by 25 ¼ in. cf. The Post War Parisian born Jacques Yankel is associated with a group of artists working in post war France through the late 1960's known as 'the New School of Paris Painters'. In the offered untitled work, loosely defined objects and a gestural layering of paint provide the viewer with an ambiguous composition suggestive of both 'objects on a table' and 'figures in a procession'. A sumptuous Prussian blue backdrop provides a vibrant field for this lyrical abstraction.
