Exceptionally fine and rare early 19th century Continental specimen marble-topped centre table, the massive circular top with central lapis lazuli roundel issuing radiating bands of specimen marbles totalling 140 specimens, in white and green marble borders, raised on central solid tree trunk support and branches, and three carved putti emblematic of the seasons, on naturalistic shaped triangular base and wooden castors, 129.5cm wide x 75cm high.Provenance: Purchased from E. T. Briggs & Sons Ltd. of Maidenhead 23rd March 1962 for £1,500 - described at that time as 'Extremely fine Italian top inlaid with specimen marbles, on 18th century carved and gilded wood base, circa 1770 - 1780'.N.B. Inlaid marble table tops of this form with central lapis roundel and radiating bands are characteristic of tops from Roman workshops, considered to date from the early 19th century period. The specimen marbles were sourced from excavations of Roman tombs on the Appian Way - a similar top is in the collection of the Natural History Museum, London CONDITION REPORT Good original condition. The top has had a historic break which has been nearly invisibly restored, there are some rim chips to the bottom edge of the top. The base has some general wear to the gilding, chips to the gesso, minor splits etc but is solid

Rare pair of Regency rosewood, grained rosewood and brass inlaid card tables, each of D-shaped form, with fold-over top enclosing baize playing surface and well below, with anthemion brass inlaid tablet frieze, raised on carved scrolled supports and platform base on four splayed carved legs terminating in brass cappings and castors, 94cm wide x 46cm deep x 77cm high CONDITION REPORT Both in good condition, one table has a couple of veneer patches to the top and a ring mark and some minor splits. Two of the legs are probably old replacements and there is some old wood worm holes to the base. The other table has some minor splits to the veneer and old wood worm holes on the base. Both tables have slight warping to the tops, one top has slight lifting to the brass work on the top

Important Asprey Gold (18ct) Strawberry Set - after a design by Paul de Lamerie - made in The Queen's Coronation year 1953 and forming part of a solid gold table service made to display the exquisite craftsmanship prevailing in Britain in the Coronation year and to enhance the reputation of British goldsmiths in overseas markets, especially in America, where it was sent on tour. The Strawberry Set comprising a sugar caster and cream jug which sit in a double frame with scroll handle, all finely chased and foliate engraved, the frame with foliate pierced base and cast shell feet - each hallmarked 18ct gold, Coronation Queen's head, Asprey & Co. and date letter for 1953. Total weight 1,485 grams. 21cm high x 18cm wide. Sold with original Asprey typed information sheet and copy of original Asprey's sales invoice for 13th December 1967 for £3,000 (see British Pathé news reel online, search under Asprey to see the service being made in 1953)
