A fine and large pair of hallmarked silver table candlesticks in neo Classical style, the concave-sided gadrooned drip pans above acanthus capitals and slightly tapering circular stems adorned with acorns and leaves in a swirling repoussé design, the spreading square gadrooned base headed with neo Classical style urns and covers with swags, each candlestick and separate drip pan with maker's mark of TB and assayed London 1897 (33cm high) The candlestick with the lot number – the drip pan is fully marked and appears to be in good condition. There are also hallmarks to the inside of the candlestick. Looking at the main outer body everything looks in fairly good honest original condition. Being super critical under a jeweller’s loupe some small scratches are visible and there are some very minor scratches/scuffs and pin head sized knocks etc., to the very bottom element of the base underneath the gadrooning. This is also fully hallmarked and there are also hallmarks to the underside. The underside looks dark and fairly scratched commensurate with age and the circular visible iron weight is corroding. The other candlestick drip pan looks in good original order with no major problems noted. The column looks OK and the same minor scratches, scuffing and extremely small dents are to be found on the very lower section of the plain plinth base underneath the gadrooning and it is noted that there is a match head sized small dent to one side just before the corner although in our opinion this would polish out fairly well. The iron weight is also corroded to the underside and there are scratches and darkness to the underside commensurate with age. No major damage, splits or reparations noted. Provenance: These have come privately and have been in the same family ownership for many years.
