By William Hean of London, of sarcophagus form, enclosing two lidded caddies and labelled twice 'William Hean, Cabinet Manufacturer, Upholsterer, Undertaker, House Agent & Appraiser, 30 Great Russell Street, Bloomsbury - Many Years Foreman to R & J Newton, Late of Wardour Street', on a lappet carved baluster column with egg and dart carved collar and quadrapartite platform base ending in scroll feet and castors, 40cm wide, 80cm high, 40cm deep. Note: Hean was active at his first premises at Little Wild Street between around 1815 and 1835, entering into a partnership with William Prentice. He moved to Great Russell Street in 1836. A number of labelled Hean pieces are recorded, some similarly labelled twice. Literature: A library table by Hean and further notes on the maker can be found in C.Gilbert's 'Pictorial Dictionary of Marked London Furniture' (F.H.S. 1996)

A fine late 19th century mahogany, purpleheart and gilt bronze mounted side table. By Henry Dasson, in the Louis XVI style, after Jean-Henri Reisener, the shaped parquetry veneered top with a pierced three-quarter gallery, above a single kingwood panelled frieze drawer, opposed by a conforming dummy drawer, raised on square tapered legs terminating in sabots with brass castors, the underside stamped in two places Henry Dasson, 69cm wide, 73cm high, 47cm deep. Henry Dasson established his workshop at 106, Rue Vielle du Temple, after a brief career at Rue des Nonnains-d' Hières in the fabrication of bronze artefacts and clocks in association with Godot. In 1871, he bought the workshop and stock for 14,000 francs from the widow of the ébéniste Charles-Guillaume Winckelsen, and soon became recognised as a brilliant ébéniste and bronzier. Specialising mostly in the production of works from the Garde Meuble National, he participated in the 1878 Paris Exposition Universelle prompting critic Louis Gonse to comment: 'nouveau venu dans la carrière industrielle Henri Dasson s'est rapidement crée par la perfection de ses oeuvres une très haute situation à laquelle nous applaudissons chaleureusement.' He was made a Chevalier of the Légion d'honneur in 1883 and was awarded the Grand Prix Artistique at the 1889 Paris Exposition Universelle. His remaining stock was auctioned upon the closure of his business in 1894.
