A fine interchangeable barrel antique Music Box and Table en-suite by Jean Billon-Haller The brass and nickel-plated movement with zither, the double spring barrels crank wound, stamped on the "endless cock" with the trademark of Jean Billon-Haller, a butterfly with it`s wings spread (The letter "J" appearing in the left wing and "B" in the right). The words Swiss Made also appears stamped into the stop/start mechanism which is of unusual design. The box with ebonised mouldings and walnut mirror-veneered panels having triple line boxwood stringing within a crossbanded border of mahogany "a quatre faces". The lid additionally with mother-of-pearl inlay, the table with ebonised mouldings and quarter veneered walnut top similarly triple strung in boxwood and cross banded in mahogany "a quatre faces". The apron frieze panels of walnut similarly strung and crossbanded, the front with two drawers for the nine 11" cylinders and on ebonised cabriole legs, Swiss c.1875 The box 29" x 14.5", 9.5" high The table 40.875" x 29.75" high Jean Billon Haller had his workshops in Geneva which were known to have existed until approximately 1895. He was a maker of extraordinary ingenuity designing and then taking out several patents on modifications to the movements, some of which being most unusual and appear in this music box. These include a "Direct drive onto cylinder" a "Straight crank arm with loud click" and "Unusual swing-over cylinder clamps" With a receipt, in the name of Mrs S. Lucas, dated 25.2.(19)92, from Garrard & Co Ltd., The Crown Jewellers, 112 Regent Street, London W1, "To a fine antique music box with matching table by Jean Billon-Haller Circa 1875", for the sum of £15,500.00 Together with her personalised illustrated catalogue of the music box.
