An early 17th century joined and inlaid oak refectory table, having a planked top with cleated ends, the frieze inlaid probably with holly and bog oak, the whole raised upon four heavy baluster turned cup and cover supports with proud reedings, united by low square cut stretchers, w.213cm, d.88cm, h.77cm Condition Report / Extra Information Provenance - purchased from the local antique trade approx. 30 years ago, consigned by a private vendor downsizing. Top and base possibly associated. Both sides of top with 3 equally spaced patch repairs (suggesting once hinged and possibly from a coffer). Four legs each with some old shrinkage splits, however table structurally sound and stands well. Centre of top with three pairs of two patches. Some wax fillings to holes on top.

Warps to top, two shrinkage splits, and three circular patch repairs. Legs good, no breaks. Column with two shrinkage cracks. Top appears to have been re-affixed to brass support. Appears all original and unrestored.

Two swags missing, one loose and damaged. Stands well. Unrestored. The whole with numerous gesso losses to extremities.

Split to outer edge of table top with runs approx. 10cm across table top. Fixed top section in four pieces. Three additional leaves are darker in colour, one is heavily scratched and worn, another with a 10cm gouge. Losses to veneer on edges and sides of apron.
SHACKLETON E.H. Sir, Heart of the Atlantic, two vols, London 1909, 1st edition, cloth complete with 3 maps in pocket of vol.II (2) Condition Report / Extra Information Not ex-library. Spine cloth dull, small ½” tear to top of spine. Vil. 1 endpapers a bit browned, otherwise contents clean, sound and free of all inscriptions. All pages, photos and plates present, colour plates with tissue guards. Pocket at end of Vol. 2 contains maps of 'Route and Surveys of the Southern Journey Party' and 'Routes and Surveys of the Southern Magnetic Polar Party' - both clean and undamaged. The general map called for in the table of contents is not present, but a folding sheet with two panoramas (not called for) is present.

Both handles to base drawers are broken. Bottle in top left corner is stuck in case. All leather good, very minor tarnishing only. Catch works well.
