A George IV mahogany Pembroke table the rectangular top with two drop leaves, over an ebony lined frieze drawer with faux drawer opposite, on a square gadrooned column to a platform base, the reeded legs with acanthus carved knees terminating in brass cap castors, 44¼ x 37¼in. (112.3 x 94.6cm.) open, 28¼in. (71.7cm.) high. *Age split to left of drawer, legs have all had a metal strap repair underneath.

A Victorian walnut sewing table of trumpet form, the thumb moulded octagonal lid opening to eight shallow compartments around one deep lidded central compartment of dark green silk, raised on three splayed legs with carved knees terminating in pad feet, 17½ x 17½in. (44.4 x 44.4cm.) x 27½in. (69.8cm.) high. *Water damage to top and small split to moulded edge at back, small chip to under side of lid near key mechanism, silk interior in excellent condition, one leg has been separated from the base but repair is very hard to see.

(37cm.) square, funnel 22in. (56cm.) diameter. working.* Working, turn table mount showing rust etc, wooden carcass with light wear only, brass funnel showing, small dents throughout.

Dutch School, late 18th century Still life with lobster, exotic fruits, wine jug and platter on a table oil on canvas, unsigned, in a heavy 19th century swept frame 23 x 31in. (58.5 x 78.75cm.). *Stiff wax relining and stretcher renewed. UV shows a few scattered retouches, plus heavier patches of retouching to the lower right and upper left corner margins - the retouched area to the lower right is clearly visible to the naked eye, as it has discoloured. There are two small indents and abrasion to the paint surface at top left, and another much smaller indent between them.

Lot 665

An 18ct yellow gold, emerald and diamond three stone ring the central 6.75 x 6mm. emerald flanked by two 0.20ct brilliant cut diamonds, size N½. *Hallmarked '18CT' and 'ND12'. Small ding to edge of shank. Has not been sized. Diamonds in good condition and claws secure. The emerald has a natural flaw crack at one end, a small chip to the centre of the table and several tiny chips, plus one a little larger, to the edge facets. The claw setting is secure.

'Specimens of British Minerals, Selected from The Cabinet of......With General Descriptions of Each Article,' First edition, volume I (of II), later cloth backed card boards, ex libris label to pastedown, tape repair to the hinge of title page verso and introduction, tape to hinge of p.13 and p.25, p.54-55-56 uncut, p.49-50-51-52 uncut, thirty three plates as called for, pp.56, table titled Specific Gravities of Several Minerals to rear, sparse and slight incidences of spotting, a vg text block with fine aquatint plates illustrated by Henry Bone (1755-1834) of Truro, W. Bulmer & Co for G. Nicol, London, 1797.Philip Rashleigh (1729-1811) of Menabilly was a renowned collector of mineral specimens, particularly of tin, much of which is on display at the Royal Cornwall Museum with portions at the Natural History Museum. By 1794 he had acquired over 4,000 mineral specimens and started to look for "a good clever man to draw and colour some of my minerals,". He settled on the well known Cornish enamel painter, Henry Bone (1755-1834) whose paintings were used to produce the plates for this scarce, early illustrated work on mineralogy. A very good copy of the first volume.

Thirty highly detailed hand drawn maps, twenty of which are in the parish of Sithney, showing coloured field boundaries, numbered with corresponding table; table titles include Field Name, Hedges, Arable & Orchard, Crofts & Waste, Total Statute, Total Cornish Customary, with a statement of tenement and occupier; Other maps titles include Deanery and Hundred of Penwith, Deanery and Hundred of Kirrer, Parish of Sithney, The Deaneries and Hundred's of Pydar and Powder, Deanery of East, Hundred of East, The Hundreds of Stratton and Lesenewth, The Deaneries of Trigg Major & Trigg Minor, Chart of the Scilly Islands, most with corresponding tablic information contemporary to the time; hand written pagination to 335, some blank leaves between maps and areas, contents, index, full red goat with gilt tooled spine and title Plans of Sithney, slightly bumped extremities with a small chip to bottom of front board, marbled endpapers with some offsetting from another work visible, contemporary homemade vellum dj (which this cataloguer took the liberty in cutting strings for access), Bath Superfine paper used throughout with heraldic Prince of Wales fethers blind stamped throughout, some light staining throughout but generally in vg to fine condition, 1824.This is an extraordinary document with considerable information gained and presented for a large area of Cornwall. Although there is no identification as to who created this work, it is clear they were highly skilled in surveying. The numbered field boundaries with corresponding tables are a particular highlight, which offers the reader a wealth of information contemporary to 1824. A loft find in the vendor's new home.
