[Regimental interest] An unusual Scottish silver table snuff box by A. G. Whighton, Edinburgh 1848, French swan import mark, of shaped triangular outline, the cover presentation engraved within a border chased with scrolls, flowers, rocaille work and a shell to the front lobe, a shaped thumb piece, the plain base with a moulded half apron extending at the front, 10cm (4in) wide (6.15 oz), sitting in its original turned and carved hardwood base. Engraved with `Presented to the Brethren by H. M. Drummond Captn. 42nd Royal Highlanders of Megginch Castle Perthshire. As a mark of esteem and respect for a body over whom he presided for nearly two years 27th December 1848`. Henry Maurice Drummond Hay (Drummond) (1814-1896) was the son of Admiral Adam Drummond, KCH, 7th of Megginch and Lady Charlotte Murray. He was later promoted to colonel and was a noted ornithologist.

(54 x 40.5cm.), 14¼in. (36.25cm.) high.
