WILLIAMS & GIBTON, AN IRISH MAHOGANY FOLDOVER GAMES TABLE, CIRCA 1830 stamped, numbered 23117, Board of Works stamp, with green baize lined playing surface, raised on fluted tapering legs and moving on brass castors. 76.5cm high, 91.5cm wide, 45.5cm deep (closed)Made for the Chief Secretary for Ireland.The firm of Mack, Williams and Gibton was established at 39 Stafford Street, Dublin and were appointed Upholsterers & Cabinet Makers to his Majesty, His Excellency the Lord Lieutenant and His Majesty's Board of Works. After the death of John Mack in 1829, the firm continued to trade as Williams and Gibton (1830-1844). They made furniture for many prominent Irish houses, such as Ballynegall, Co. Westmeath, Oakley Park, Co. Meath and Strokestown Co. Roscommon. The firm is recognised for the high quality of its workmanship and was compared in quality to its English contemporary, Gillows.Card table is in good clean condition. Probably been re-polished in the last 30 years, signs of old scratches and marks

Piece of fret missing (see image). Minor surface marks. Structurally sound and a good looker.
