Miniature bowls or baskets were placed around a tiered table centrepiece, and they would have held a candied fruit, small sweets, biscuits or sugared flowers. Plate 223 of Conrad Haggars Neues Salzburgisches Koch-Buch, which was published in 1719, shows small bowls around a central tiered surtout. For a miniature octagonal dish and a miniature basket which once formed part of a dessert centrepiece, see Meredith Chilton (Ed.), Fired by Passion, Vienna Baroque Porcelain of Claudius Innocentius du Paquier, Dettingen, 2009, Vol. 3, p. 1305, nos. 352 and 353, and Vol. 2, p. 888 for the 1719 cookbook engraving.  Condition Report: Overall in very good order with just some very, very minor wear to enamel border around the upper rim.

A George III mahogany repeating table clock, John Lambert, last quarter 18th century, the case with inverted bell top surmounted by a brass swing handle and flanked by four acorn finials, the break arch door with Rococo style brass quadrants, the sides with glass panels, on a plinth base with brass bracket feet, the arched silvered dial with Roman numerals and Arabic five minute markers, the gilt matted centre with silvered plate signed Jn Lambert London and date aperture at six, with Strike / Silent subsidiary dial to arch and having C-scroll spandrels, the twin fusee movement with verge escapement, the backplate finely engraved with scrolling flowers and foliage, striking a bell and having pull cord repeat, the pendulum with pear shaped bob, with two case keys, 51cm high (handle extended), 27.5cm wide, 18.3cm deep   Provenance: Private London collection, purchased by current owner from W. F.
