2nd millennium BC. A carved carnelian D-section hoop with ovoid bezel, incised border, regardant dog and table(?) motifs. 2.01 grams, 21mm overall, 15.11mm internal diameter (approximate size British I, USA 4 1/4 Europe 7.44 Japan 7) (3/4"). Property of North West London gentleman; acquired from a London collector in the late 1990s; previously in a private collection formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s. Extremely fine condition.
Dated 1992 AD. A Hunt & O'Byrne of London 'red plate' two-piece three-quarter jointed ash snooker cue with additional black long butt and a magnetic chalk holder, in a 'crocodile pattern' leather hard case by Cheddar Classics; the interior of the case signed by Stephen Hendry (annotated as 'World Champion 92'), also signed by other players and snooker personalities including Terry Griffiths, Mark Williams, John Spencer, Martin Clark, Rex Williams, Steve James, Peter Francisco, Dene O'Kane, Willie Thorne, Peter Ebdon, Tony Chappel, Nigel Bond, Roger Lee, David Rowe, Mike Henson and others; with a protective green baize outer cover sleeve for the case (this faded); with the 5 May 1992 'Terry Griffifth's Captain's Day' programme, signed 'To John' by John Carroll, Stephen Hendry and Nigel Bond. 3.50 kg total, cue 1.45m, case 1.11m. (cue 57 case 43 3/4"). From the Tan family collection, South East London, UK; acquired by the vendor at the 'Terry Griffith's Captain's Day' charity event and raffle held at the Belfrey, Wishaw, North Warwickshire, UK, 5 May 1992 after the 1992 world championship; it is understood that Hendry carried this cue for a period of two years after that date and used it for practise games with his manager John Carroll and others, before it finally passed back to the vendor; the signed 1992 event programme is included. The 1992 World Snooker Championship saw Stephen Hendry make a famous recovery in the final against Jimmy White; Hendry was losing 14-8 and behind in frame 23 when he cleared the table to win that frame and continued on for the next ten frames in succession to win the championship. This cue case was signed and won, with the cue and fittings, after the 1992 world championship. Very fine condition.
