A rare pair of Chinese carved and brown stained ivory wrist rests, 19th century each modelled as stylised sectional lotus roots, the exteriors carved with sinuous lotus stems, leaves, seed pods and flowers divided by cross hatched collars, the interiors each finely carved with three graduated oval undercut scenic panels depicting figures at various outside pursuits within wooded landscapes, including figures with a boat to the foreground, figures seated around a table with a dog to the foreground, figures seated around a table within a rockwork landscape, figures within a wooded hilltop settlement, figures and a dog within a wooded rockwork landscape and three figures beside a well (2) 45.5cm long In good condition with some minor wear to the staining and with a few minor minute chips and blemishes to the extremities. A VR Naval Long Service and Good Conduct Medal to William Santillo Coxwain 1st Class H.M.S. Defiance, together with a manuscript draft of the recipient’s memoirs, a bosun’s call, and an occasional table with applied metal decoration in the form of ship outlines commemorating the collision between H.M.S. Victoria and H.M.S. Camperdown. Santillo served on H.M.S. Amphion, which was part of the formation.
