A German cast iron conservatory or garden table, Furstlich Anhaltisches Eisenhuttenwerk foundry, Magdesprung, last quarter 19th century, the circular top with chess board in shallow relief, alternate squares decorated with putti in various attitudes, with scrolling foliate spandrels, the tapering and fluted stem with spreading, leaf cast top and knops below, on three foliate cast cabriole legs with hoof feet, inscribed 1920 to the underside, 80.5cm high, 43.5cm diameter. This design is recorded as having been first produced in 1865. Comparative Literature: Georg Himmelheber, Cast-Iron Furniture, Philip Wilson Publishers Ltd, London 1996, plate 241.
