Leather with general light scuffs and marks through use but nothing serious. The drum with general light age wear but nothing serious. Overall of a good colour and appearance. The table was purchased by the vendor about ten years ago when it received a good re-polish.

Split to one of the leaves, small old repair at bracket join. Losses to inlay on the legs and frieze. Wear to the legs through use. Chipping to the underside of the skirt. GILLOWS OF LANCASTER; a good early Victorian mahogany extending dining table, the round rectangular top with two additional leaves raised on substantial lobed tapering legs to brass caps and castors, underside of table stamped 'Gillows Lancaster', width 104cm, height 73cm, length when closed 118cm, the larger leaf 55cm, smaller leaf 32cm.Additional InformationThe table is of an even colour and of a good appearance. There is a winding handle and the mechanism opens ok. The table has probably been restored / re-polished but not recently. Some old blemishes and marks but nothing serious. Legs with minor wear and castors with general age patina to brass. One of the leaves with filler repairs to cracks (see images) but these have been discussed in well. Rounding to the corners of the two leaves. No heat marks or big scratches to the top. The table appears to be structurally good. The top is solid mahogany. Elements of the sub structure are pine.

There are some light scratches to the interior where the top rubs over the edge when it is swivelled. The interior and underside is very clean and parts of this may have been stripped and cleaned or replaced.

An Edwardian walnut two tier occasional table with deep carved detail to the octagonal top, width 57cm (af).PROVENANCE: from the Brian Morley collection. Brian Morley was born in 1935 in the Peak District, Derbyshire. He had a grammar school education at Buxton College and went on to study at Goldsmiths School of Art (University of London) from 1954-58. He won prizes for drawing and was given the John Murray Award for landscape painting by the Royal Academy in 1956 and 1958. He then studied painting at the Royal College of Art from 1958-61 where he was awarded his A.R.C.A. After graduation, he taught part-time in various art schools before taking up an appointment as Senior Lecturer in Fine Art at Manchester Polytechnic in 1975. He remained in Manchester until he retired as Head of the School of Painting and Printmaking in the Faculty of Art & Design at Manchester University in 2000.
