An early 19thC rosewood library table, with rounded rectangular top and two frieze drawers, one having the label MANUFACTURED BY J FLOOD, Cabinet, Chair, Sofa, and Dinning Table, MAKER AFTER NO 11 CHARLES ST MIDDLESEX HOSPITAL LONDON, Every Article Manufactured On The Premises And Warranted, on tulip carved and reeded baluster supports with block and central boss supports, on scrolling feet with castors, 74cm H, 138cm W, 73cm D.James Flood is also recorded at No.8 Charles Street (1824-39). He is also recorded in the Signature Book of Herries, Farquar & Co, private bankers of 16 St. James' St, London 1824.
A fine Regency rosewood card table attributed to George Oakley, the baize lined, rounded rectangular fold over top, with satinwood crossbanding, scrolling frieze with brass inlay, on sabre supports joined by a central circular boss which performs a scissor-action spread to stabilise over down swept serpentine legs with brass star and fleur-de-lis detailing and terminating in cast brass acanthus capped castors, 75cm H, 91cm W.The Royal Collection Trust retains a pair of similar card tables in The Music Room at Buckingham Palace, each with swivelling top veneered with rosewood; in part decorated with carved and gilded ornament and inlaid with brass. The closed top inlaid with a scrolled brass line and at each front corner a fleur-de-lys, on serpentine splayed legs joined by a central undertier. This pattern of card-table is associated with the work of the London cabinet-maker George Oakley. They may have been purchased by Queen Mary.
A Regency mahogany sofa table, with satinwood banding and rosewood cross banding to the top, having two frieze drawers and opposing dummies, with turned knob handles and ivory escutcheons, on a ring turned pillar with four reeded sabre legs terminating in brass paw toes with castors, 72cm H, 147cm W, 68cm D.Provenance: This was purchased by a Mr J T Sawday on 5th February 1979 from the Armagh Gallery Fine Art Dealers 60 North Street Broadway Worcestershire for £265.00
