The shield crest and motto of BRUDENELL with a crescent for difference. Evidently for Lord Ernest Augustus Charles Brudenell, b. January 1811, 2nd son of Charles, 2nd Earl of Cardigan and 1st Marquess of Ailesbury. On the death, in 1878, of his elder brother Lord Ernest succeeded as 3rd Marquess of Ailesbury and died in 1886.
