A Chinese rosewood serpentine centre table, late 19th century in the Victorian taste, the outer border to the edge of the top carved with scrolling leaves, berries and leaves, the scrolling frieze also carved with sprigs of flowers, buds and berries on four well shaped cabriole legs united by an X stretcher with central leaf and vine boss, the table bears presentation plaque to `Hon Mr Edward Osborne on his retirement by the European Staff of the Hong Kong Kowloon Wharf and Godown Ltd as a token of their esteem and regard, 113cm wide, 76cm high, 56cm deep
A William and Mary oak gate-leg breakfast table, the oval top on slender baluster and cup supports united by plain side stretchers raised on short turned feet, the table with single end short frieze drawer fitted with replacement turned wooden handle, 80cm long, 114cm open, 68cm high, 30.5cm deep
A pair of William IV oak armchairs by Gillows, circa 1830, each with a pierced Gothic railed back and octagonal tapering uprights above a re-covered overstuffed seat and padded open arms on cluster front column supports and tapering cluster column front legs terminating in a bulb shaped foot, each stamped `GILLOWS. LANCASTER` to the underside of the front rail, 58.5cm wide, 94.5cm high, 53.5cm deep along with a matching single chair (2+1) NOTE: Similarities in the cluster column legs to Thomas Scarisbrick of Scarisbrick Hall`s writing table, circa 1823 from a basic design first used by Gillows in their 1810 sketchbook. The stamp to the underside of each front seat rail `GILLOWS. LANCASTER` relates to the stamp used circa 1825-35. The cluster column and quatrefoil design also relates back to an oak arm chair designed by James Wyatt for Windsor Castle in 1805 where effective use was made of the cluster column and blind tracery.
A late Victorian rosewood marquetry boxwood line strung centre table, the rectangular top with break-front front and back, mirror veneer and marquetry demi lune side panels depicting classical urns to the top, within scrolling leaves, over two end true short drawers and false drawer fronts to the front and back, each with arcaded vertical line inlay and matching inlay to the frieze, on eight slender turned and tapering reeded legs terminating in brown salt glazed castors, the four end legs united by a slender X-stretcher, 122cm long, 74.5cm wide, 78cm high
A mahogany library table, mid 18th century, the rectangular top with brown tooled leather skiver, over a full depth central frieze drawer, with opposing false drawer front flanked by an arrangement of graduated cockbeaded short drawers to each pedestal, all fitted with brass swan-neck handles with scroll cut pierced back plates, raised on a skirting plinth, the top with re-entrant rounded corners over quarter moulded outer corners to each pedestal, terminating to a splay point, 188cm wide, 78cm high, 94.5cm deep Note: The drawer handles are similar to a type ordered by Gillows from Holden and Steer of Liverpool in 1759.
