LEMMY, JOHN CALE, JOHN LENNON, DAVID CASSIDY, JAMES, KRAUTROCK & MORE. A truly eclectic mix of memorabilia here to include boxed Lemmy figure & 2 DVDs of his life story that Peter featured in, John Lennon Imagine h/b book plus newspapers & magazines published following his death in 1980, a b/w photo of Hooky & David Cassidy, a folder containing press photos of numerous bands (James, Steve Strange, 808 State, Fun Lovin Criminals and more), 2 x John Cale Live at The Hacienda cassettes plus a catalogue and press release re German Rock Avantgarde project that Peter appeared on with Killing Joke.Sometimes it is overwhelming remembering these occasions. David Cassidy, I met in New York with Keith Allen at ‘The New Music Seminar’ that Tony Wilson would later bring to Manchester as ‘In The City’. It really went crazy that night when Ice Cube’s posse started fighting with Da Lynch Mob in the hotel we were all at for the conference... David Cassidy leapt under the table on hearing shots outside the Green Room door. Me being pissed and used to it (thanks to The Hacienda) spent ages trying to get him out so we could go out and see what was happening.
ALVAR AALTO: A TWO-TIER SIDE TABLE model numbers 75/83 and 915, the black lacquer top and undershelf with curved sides, the Finnish birch frame bent into a closed curve, 59cm high x 60cm wide x 49.5cm deepProvenance: Private Collection, DorsetRecognised today as one of the great masters of modern architecture, Alvar Aalto (1898-1976) was born in Kuortane, Finland. One of the co-founders of Artek, Aalto left a legacy with lasting resonance.Aalto’s architecture is distinctively Finnish, strongly individual, and marked by a warm humanity. His buildings derive their aesthetic character from their dynamic relationship with their natural surroundings, their human scale, superbly executed details, unique treatment of materials, and ingenious use of lighting.Aalto began designing furnishings as a natural extension of his architectural thinking. His first modern piece of furniture was created in 1931-32 for the tuberculosis sanatorium in Paimio, FinlandAalto also went on to provide furniture for the Finsbury Health Centre in London, designed by architect Berthold Lubetkin, which has been suggested as the point of origin for the lot offered here.
POUL KJAERHOLM FOR E. KOLD CHRISTENSEN: A PAIR OF LOW CHAIRS MODEL PK22 with red leather upholstered back and seat on chrome legs, stamped to the underside with the E Kold Christensen mark, 72cm high x 63cm wide x 75cm deepProvenance: Private Collection, DorsetAlthough there is little to no historical information available regarding the manufacturer E. Kold Christensen or the man himself, the company itself was instrumental in furthering Danish industrial designer Poul Kjærholm’s career. The pair formed a partnership and friendship that lasted over two decades, producing some of Kjærholm’s most well known work. The first successful piece produced by the partnership was a minimalist chair that is reminiscent of Mies van der Rohe’s famous Barcelona Chair (1929). The PK22 (1956), which was designed from a single sheet of steel, was an instant commercial success launching both the designer's and manufacturer's careers. In 1957, the chair won the Grand Prix at Milan’s Triennale. Famous designs from this fruitful partnership include Kjærholm’s PK61 coffee table (1955), PK80 daybed (1957), PK33 stool (1959), PK9 Tulip Chair (1961), and the wicker and steel PK24 chaise longue (1965).Kjærholm and Kold Christensen worked closely together until the untimely death of the former in 1980. The pieces produced from this period are highly sought-after and sell for soaring prices. In 1982, Fritz Hansen took over the production and sales of The Kjærholm Collection, which includes designs developed from 1951 to 1967. In 2007, Fritz Hansen added to the collection, with the PK8 side chair and PK58 dining tables, neither of which had previously been in production.
