Y A ROSEWOOD AND BRASS INLAID CONCENTRIC DINING TABLECIRCA 1815 AND LATERWith eight additional leaf insertions73.5cm high, 152cm diameter (244cm when fully extended) Condition Report: Marks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use.Old splits and chips, various old repairs to veneer throughout, and some small sections of the brass. some old losses. Some elements of the brassware (as often found) protrude slightly from the surface and need some attention to be put exactly into place. Some sections of brassware have moved slightly out of position. some of the tiny nails/ tacks securing the brass are lacking. The additional leaves and the metal fixtures securing them are likely of later date and late 19th or early 20th century. The apertures for the leaf fittings have likely been adapted or made larger in order to accommodate the leaf fittings. To the leaf additions, the veneers to the surfaces are in sections of various size including in small sections to accommodate the inlaid brass motifs. As the brass inlay to the leaf additions matches the inlay to the main circular top it is likely that the inlay to the main part of the table is also later. The fillets of timber at the side edges of the leaves (to assist them fitting together) have possibly been later added in order to improve the practical use of the table. These elements are made of stained plywood of some sort. The inlaid brassware has previously been cleaned and bears wear and some scratching to the surface. Sympathetic restoration to old losses and colour would improve the appearance of the table further. The base has simulated figuring throughout and has been added additionally at a later date to disguise some splits and repairs. The underside of the top and the leaves of the table have been applied with a later wash/ stain to improve appearance. The top was originally hinged on the base and is now fixed with four later associated metal bolts and fittings. The two stretchers that these bolts go through are later replacements (see images)Some of the screws securing the brass lion feet of the table are likely replacements.    Condition Report Disclaimer
