A Fine George III Mahogany Quarter Chiming Table Clock, Mat.s Nicolason, London, circa 1790, the figured case with inverted bell top, side carrying handles and pierced scroll and mask decorated sound frets, rectangular base upon gilt metal scroll shaped feet, 8-inch arched brass dial with painted circular chapter ring and Roman and Arabic numerals, the arch with two subsidiary dials for chime/silent and calendar, massive triple fusee movement, possibly converted to anchor escapement, quarter chiming with eight hammers striking eight bells, and two further hammers striking two bells, one for the hours striking on the half hour mark and the other for the hours on the hour mark, movement backplate highly engraved with floral and scrollwork decoration, movement secured by brackets, 62cm high See illustrations.
