A French majolica table centrepiece late 19th century modelled by Louis Carrier-Belleuse of elongated rectangular form modelled as a terrace with a pierced fence on each side flanked by moulded foliage a column at each corner surmounted by a lion's head mask and shield held by a putto at each end of the terrace a cornucopia supporting a pierced basket beneath which play three putti glazed overall in pale-blue incised LOUIS CARRIER BELLEUSE impressed numerals 1568 10 99 91.5cm. 36in. long some restoration Louis (1848-1912) was the son of Albert Carrier- Belleuse. He became Art Director at the Choisy-le-Roi factory and is known for producing terracotta busts and taking a keen interest in mythological subjects.
