Original vintage World War Two poster by the notable British cartoonist and illustrator Fougasse (Cyril Kenneth Bird; 1887-1965), one of the posters from the popular Careless Talk Costs Lives wartime propaganda series issued by the Ministry of Information - "Of course there’s no harm in your knowing!" - featuring an illustration of a couple chatting over their glasses of wine at a restaurant table with an image of Hitler writing down their conversation with a pen and paper while hiding underneath the table. Original vintage WWI propaganda poster published by the Parliamentary Recruiting Committee in London: Are You in this? Designed by Sir Baden-Powell, who founded the Boy Scout movement after his return from service in the Boer War, the poster features a coloured drawing showing various character taking part in the war effort: a soldier in khaki carrying a rifle; a boy scout carrying a box and note; a sailor in blue manning a large gun; a worker bearing a sledge hammer and a women working in on rows of bullets on a table; on the right side, an idle-looking man stands in a suit, hands in pockets, smoking a cigarette, with the injunction of the poster addressed to him. Original vintage World War Two propaganda poster: "Ours... to fight for Freedom from Want" issued by the Office of War Information and initially published in the Saturday Evening Post newspaper, one of a series of four oil paintings by the notable artist Norman Rockwell (1894-1978) entitled the Four Freedoms (Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Worship, Freedom from Want and Freedom from Fear), referring to the basic human rights outlined by President Roosevelt in his state of union address in January 1941. Great image of a happy family laughing and chatting around a table ready for their meal together, the grandmother bringing in a large turkey in front of the grandfather at the head of the table with a smiling man in the corner looking out to the viewer, the text above and below. Printed by the U.S. Government Printing Office. Excellent condition, restored folds, backed on linen. Norman Percevel Rockwell (February 3, 1894 – November 8, 1978) was an American author, painter and illustrator. His works have a broad popular appeal in the United States for their reflection of American culture. Rockwell is most famous for the cover illustrations of everyday life he created for The Saturday Evening Post magazine over nearly five decades. Among the best-known of Rockwell's works are the Willie Gillis series, Rosie the Riveter, The Problem We All Live With, Saying Grace, and the Four Freedoms series. He is also noted for his 64-year relationship with the Boy Scouts of America (BSA), during which he produced covers for their publication Boys' Life, calendars, and other illustrations. A 19thC Chinese golden lacquered kneehole dressing table and matching stool, the table with an arrangement of seven short drawers with brass drop handles above an open fret apron, all surfaces painted with an intricate pattern of arabesque leaf scroll, the back decorated with sprigs of foliage, Height 32", Width 54", Depth 25" - the table with some internal replacements to drawer runners, the stool missing some fretwork.
