An early 20th century Irish silver dish ring, of waisted circular form, pierced and engraved with birds, foliage and C-scrolls, marks for Dublin 1927, maker West & Son, 20cm, 361grams *** Dish rings were used to support bowls of hot food on a dining table, helping to protect polished surfaces, The piercing not only looking attractive but aiding the dispersal of hot air. Originating at the latter stages of the 17th century, with so many being produced in Ireland that they became known as the 'Irish Potato Ring' small knock to base rim, illustrated.
