AN EARLY VICTORIAN ORMOLU MOUNTED WALNUT, STAINED PEARWOOD AND MARQUETRY BUREAU PLAT the top crossbanded in kingwood with strapwork, ribbons and festoons, the frieze with a mahogany lined drawer, on cabriole legs with pierced chutes and sabots, 75cm h; 62 x 110cm The taste for such French style tables in the early Victorian period was mainly promoted by the dealer and manufacturer Edward Holmes Boldock. The particular style of marquetry of the present table is associated with the London cabinet inlayer and manufacturer of `buhl` Robert Blake (d1881). His Stephen St manufactuory was established in the late 1820s and the business was continued by Messrs George Blake & Brothers. A virtually identical table was sold anonymously, Christie`s, London, 14 November 2013 lot 67. ++In excellent original unrestored complete condition with only the odd tiny blemish. In local private family ownership for 60 plus years
