George Jones Majolica cheese skep and cover, circa 1872, modelled as a thatched beehive bound with ropes in cream and honey coloured glazes raised on a square base, modelled as a rustic table in mottled greens and browns, the interior turquoise glazed, impressed registration lozenge for October 1872
1930's Robert ``Mouseman`` Thompson oak dressing table, the overhanging top with tail carved corners, above a series of four frieze drawers, tooled handles, scorn and leaf carved spandrels, on four carved legs and block feet, with carved mouse signature to one leg, adzed finish, 104cm wide, 58cm deep., 74cm high private collection of “Mouseman” furniture, the pieces passed down from the vendors Grandfather Harold Stead. The collection was formed from a friendship between Harold Stead and Robert Thompson. Harold Stead decided in the 1930’s to begin the restoration of The Manor House in Lower Wyke, near Bradford, by the late 1930’s restoration was completed, one of the rooms had oak panelling and through knowing cabinet makers H P Jackson and Robert Thompson the decision was made to use the “Mouseman” to fill the Manor. All the pieces in this auction were personally worked on by Robert Thompson himself, originally the collection of furniture was larger but owing to Harold Stead retiring and downsizing a large portion of the collection was sold, these nine pieces being the last of the collection.
