Peter Rose Pulham, British 1910-1956 - The Conjuror’s Table; oil on panel, signed and titled on the reverse 'Peter Rose Pulham The Conjuror's Table', 21.8 x 27 cm (ARR) Note: Peter Rose Pulham initially worked as a photographer, moving to Paris in the 1930s where he created celebrated photographic portraits of Pablo Picasso in his studio and discovered and became involved with the Surrealists. Examples of Pulham's work can be found in the National Galleries of Scotland and Tate collections. During his lifetime, the artist exhibited with Redfern Gallery in 1947, Hanover Gallery in 1950 and the ICA in 1952. A similar work by the artist 'Blue Paper', utilising the same brick background, was sold at Bonhams on the 27th November 2019, lot 171. Both work share an esoteric subject matter, with a precise, highly finished painting style.

A 19th century Tunbridge ware table box, with marquetry and painted chariot scene to centre, complete with contents including coins and three glass flasks. Width 23.5 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This box is 19.5 cm deep, 8 cm high. Note there is a crack and split to the wood at the back at the base. This runs to three quarters of the box. Also other splits and imperfections to the edge of the rectangular moulded top. Also areas in parts where the marquetry has lifted slightly. Overall in used condition. The red velvet interior has stained areas.
A Victorian mahogany rectangular side table, the moulded top above foliate carved and turned feet. 75 cm high, 138 cm wide, 71 cm deep. CONDITION REPORT: The table top has a crack running from left to right approximately half way through. There are numerous light scratches to the top of the table but nothing untoward. The base is solid and in good order and showing signs of use.
A commemorative cast iron pub table, decorated with standing soldiers and scrolls inscribed with Mafeking Ladysmith and Pretoria, also featuring Colonel Baden Powell. 75 cm high. CONDITION REPORT: The table top has been revarnished and the base repainted. It is all in good condition but suspect it is a later reproduction.
A Victorian mahogany centre table, with circular flip top on heavy bulbous pedestal and triple splay legs. Height 79 cm, diameter 118 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The table shows signs of use, age related wear etc but nothing untoward. There is a slight ring mark towards the centre but this is very slight. The legs are solid and structurally sound.
A late 19th century table, with interior folding out to writing desk with tooled leather slope. Height 75 cm, width 55 cm, depth 41 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This sits securely and firmly on its four feet. The frame is in good condition. All the moving parts move smoothly on their hinges. There is a clear and visible repair to the front right foot. There are cracks that run through the legs in more than one place which have been repaired. There are additional cracks and splits to the second and left-hand front leg as well. Also wear and other signs of use to the small knob feet. As you move up the legs there are still other signs of wear, nicks and losses. However, the structure itself is sound and the leather lined interior in reasonable but used condition.
A 19th century Chinese hardwood jardiniere stand, with rouge marble top and raised on cabriole legs united by stretchers. Height 91 cm, top diameter 28 cm. CONDITION REPORT: This table is not entirely stable, the X shaped stretcher is not fully attached to the legs in two places, this is causing instability. There is also significant wear both to the stretcher and also the legs, particularly in the lower sections. As you move up there are also one or two visible repairs to the top ends of the legs. The circular top itself is water stained in places.
A Regency style mahogany kidney shaped dressing table, with shield shaped mirror fitted with frieze drawers and raised on Klismos type supports. Height to work surface 73.5 cm, width 94 cm, depth 58 cm. CONDITION REPORT: This sits firmly and securely upon the floor, the legs are secure and do not move. The mirror with upper section is held and moves in its support smoothly. The three drawers all run reasonably smoothly. There is plenty of distressing and wear to this item. Particularly visible on the kidney shaped top with watermarks and other areas of discolouration through use. Small chips also apparent to the cockbeading that runs along the back of the top.
