A Victorian mahogany toilet mirror of oval form with scrolled foliate bracket supports, a 19th century mahogany revolving piano stool with upholstered seat, raised on ring turned and tapered supports, a later Edwardian foot stool with turned spindle gallery, a mahogany side table fitted with a frieze drawer, a contemporary wall mirror of rectangular form with moulded frame and bevelled edge mirror plate, and a Georgian mahogany open elbow chair in the Hepplewhite style, the shield shaped back with pierced Gothic tracery comb splat over a serpentine upholstered drop in seat, raised on square cut and moulded forelegs united by stretchers
2200-2100 BC. A limestone cylinder seal with figural frieze; accompanied by a museum-quality impression and typed and signed scholarly note issued by W.G. Lambert, late Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: 'Cylinder seal of Brown Stone 16 x 8 mm. In the middle is an offering table supported on a single leg, and to each side a standing figure in long robe raising one hand. A lunar crescent is put above the table. A terminal is formed of a tree with straight trunk and side branches. This is a post-Akkadian seal from Sumer, c. 2200-2100 B.C. It is cut crudely, but is in fine condition. It is a good example of its kind.' 2.0 grams, 17mm (3/4"). Fine condition. Property of a London gentleman; part of his family collection since the 1970s. This lot is part of a single collection of cylinder seals which were examined in the 1980s by Professor Lambert and most are accompanied by his own detailed notes; the collection has recently been reviewed by Dr. Ronald Bonewitz.
Mid-17th century AD. A flat-section gold hoop with reserved foliage to the shoulders, box-shaped bezel with sloping sides set with a table-cut garnet. 6.55 grams, 25mm overall, 17.80mm internal diameter (approximate size British O 1/2, USA 7 1/2, Europe 15.76, Japan 15) (1"). Very fine condition. Property of a West Country gentleman. Cf. Oman, C.C. Victoria and Albert Museum Catalogue of Rings, reprinted Ipswich, 1993, item 327.
