ERNEST GIMSON (1864-1919) An Arts & Crafts oak large dining table, with d-end sections, the central section with panelled top, all on eight chamfered legs ending in tapering spade feet, the two d-ends also fit together to make a smaller circular table, 77" long, 41 3/4" deep, 29" high (the top in need of restoration) Provenance: The descendants of Major F. F. McKeekan of Waterlane House, Oakridge, Gloucestershire. Major F. F. McKeekan employed Ernest Gimson to make alterations and additions to Waterlane House in 1907-1908. This included exterior and interior architectural work, including a timber staircase in the hall with simple chamfered square balustrade framing and plank panels, plank doors (with Bucknell ironmongery) and beamed ceilings. Gimson also designed a number of pieces of furniture for the house including a fitted dresser and a settle. Drawings for some of the architectural work and metal work by Gimson, can be found in Cheltenham Art Gallery.
ATTRIBUTED TO JOSEF HOFFMANN FOR LOBMEYR A set of `Patrician` drinking glasses, bell shaped bowls and slender tapering stems, design introduced in 1917, six 6" high, five 6 1/2" high, six 7" high and six 5 1/4" high with larger bowls and shorter tapering stems (23) Literature: See Peter Noever (ed.), J. & L. Lobmeyr: Between Vision and Reality, New York: Prestel, 2009, pp.92-93 for examples of this design and pp.130-131 for the Lobmeyr design poster of all the different sizes and shapes of their table ware. This lot is sold together with a copy of Stefan Rath, Lobmeyr, Vienna: Druck.
