White and Newton, Portsmouth - A 'Madison' mahogany dining suite comprising extending table of rectangular form (length when closed 142cm, together with four panel back chairs upholstered in mustard yellow hopsack fabric and a sideboard, fitted with an arrangement of five drawers beside a double door cupboard, height 74cm, width 215cm and depth 43cm, all raised to tapered legs. (6)Provenance - Purchased from Smith Contemporary Furnishers of Bearwood in July 1961. This suite comes with its original purchase receipt for £99-17/-N.B. The chairs in this lot are offered for sale as works of art. They may not comply with the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) Safety Regulations 1988 and for this reason should not be used in a private dwelling.
