A COALPORT BLUE AND WHITE FISH DISH AND DRAINER AND MATCHING DESSERT TUREEN AND COVER, JOHN ROSE & CO, C1800-10 with basket moulding, printed with the Caughley Carnation pattern, dish 47cm w Provenance: (dish) Jean Sewell Antiques, (drainer) Margaret Ironside. Both Caughley and John Rose at Coalport are recorded as making "fish dishes" and "trays/strainers". 1969/81 p153 "an oval Salopian dish and fish tray nearly to correspond in pattern"; 1970/81 p145 "A dinner service of red and green Dragon pattern [included] 1 fish dish and 2 strainers". In 1802 Thomas Brocas, the Shrewsbury retailer of Coalport porcelain, advertised "full table services of White China with basketwork on the edges, blue sprigs and chantillia". (1970/81 pp 11-12). These pieces have basket edges and John Rose's Chantilly Sprigs, also Carnation prints matching 1970/81, plt 84. No Reserve

Minor old worm damage to some of the softwood parts of the substructure. Small section of the banding on the front edge lifting and one or two minor old stains on the top
A GEORGE III MAHOGANY DRESSING TABLE, C1780 the crossbanded top with barber pole stringing, fitted with drawers in matched veneers, brushing slide, apron drawer and figured door to the recess, the brass handles and escutcheon apparently original, 86cm h; 50 x 25cm ++In good unrestored condition, fine quality timber of pleasing colour/patina. The top with a number of old scratches and stains, small veneer losses in places, one drawer with small hole in the front and lacking the escutcheon. One or two old minor repairs, shrinkage crack on one side, all but one of the drawers with lock, the drawer linings and backboards original. A high quality example

A CHARLES II OAK SIDE TABLE, C1680 the top with cleated ends, the drawer lined in fruitwood, the lock and brass escutcheon original, on bobbin turned legs, 73cm h; 56 x 92cm ++In very good and unusually original condition, the top somewhat warped resulting in a horizontal shrinkage crack between the two boards, old dirt and dust but entirely original, complete and free from restoration or replacements, rare in this original state
A SÈVRES PLATE, THE PORCELAIN C1780 redecorated by Thomas Martin Randall, 24cm diam, with old hand written label Provenance: Royal Worcester Factory Museum until sold Phillips; Richardson Antiques from which purchased 29 January 1999. That plaque is a section of a circular gueridon table, but wrongly attributed to P Ballard. George Randall asserted that piece was "manufactured by my late father... at Shelton after he had removed from Madeley". Its strongly characteristic granular turquoise ground and raised rococo gilding with various different infillings to its small reserves are immediately recognisable on other pieces. George's statement demonstrates that this finest quality Randall Sèvres style was produced not at Madeley but later at Shelton, the distinctive ground and gilding probably by Robert Edward Gray.
