Very fine and rare, silver-gilt, emerald stone and painted on enamel mystery table clock. Octagonal polished agate base with silver-gilt toupie feet, curved circular body overlaid with translucent red guilloche enamel painted with flowers. White enamel dial with painted red radial Roman hour numerals, outer dot minute divisions and Arabic five-minute numerals, red and gold translucent enamel center around which the serpent rotates. Cocteau (Jean) Les Chevaliers de la Table Ronde Pièce en trois actes, signed presentation copy from the author, with an original drawing by him, half-title, frontispiece by the author, occasional spotting, lightly browned throughout, original printed wrappers, water-stained at foot of spine, some foxing or staining, lightly browned, housed in a modern blue cloth box, titled in silver on upper cover, silk ties, 8vo, Paris, Gallimard, 1937.⁂ The presentation inscription reads 'à Carmen de gandarillas ce souvenir amical de Jean Cocteau'. Carmen, and her brother Tony (partner of the painter Christopher Wood), were part of the artistic sets of Paris and London. She was painted by Augustus John ('Señora Gandarillas').
